A notice has been issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) for government schools. All government schools have been directed to ensure that students who have failed in Class 9 twice are admitted to the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). This is for the academic session 2024-25.
Data shared by the Computer Cell (DoE) shows that 17,308 students have been declared failed in Class 9 for the second time. This is for the 2023-24 session. Of these, only 6,200 students are currently in the process of enrollment through the DoE's NIOS portal. The initiative aims to address the high risk of dropouts among these students.
The circular states that it has been observed that students who have failed twice are at risk of dropping out. To ensure that they get the necessary support and counselling, heads of government schools are now empowered to give counselling to students and their parents, emphasising the importance of continuing education through NIOS.
Following this approach will give students the freedom to study at their own pace and choose subjects of their interest. The ultimate goal is to reintegrate them into their parent schools upon successful completion of Class 10. The directive has received prior approval of the competent authority. It underlines the Directorate of Education's commitment to assist all students in achieving their educational goals, the circular said.
