The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has revised the syllabi and assessment structure for mathematics, science, and social science subjects for Class 9 and 10 in the academic year 2023-24. These revisions align with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2023.
Regarding Class 10, JKBOSE has rationalized the syllabi for three subjects, while the assessment of marks remains unchanged from the previous year. In contrast, there are notable changes in the syllabus and marking scheme for Class 9.
For the Class 10 board exams in 2024, the compulsory subjects include General English, Urdu or Hindi, mathematics, social science (comprising history, political science, geography, economics, disaster management, and road safety education), and science (covering physics, chemistry, and biology).
The syllabi and assessment for English, Hindi, and Urdu subjects will remain consistent for both Class 9 and 10.
In terms of the marking scheme, internal assessments carry a weightage of 20 marks for all compulsory subjects, while written exams account for 80 marks.
JKBOSE has also updated the scheme for assessing additional or optional subjects and subjects tailored for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), aligning them with NEP 2020. According to the new JKBOSE Class 10 syllabus brochure, students are not allowed to select the same compulsory language or subject when choosing an additional or optional language or subject.
