The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has concluded this year's Class 12 exams, which were taken by over 15 lakh students. Results are anticipated to be announced around mid-May.
In the previous academic year, Class 12 exams ran from February 14 to April 5, with results declared on May 12. In 2022, CBSE introduced a two-term system, with term-1 exams in November-December and term-2 exams in May-June. The consolidated results were then announced on July 22, 2022.
This year, CBSE conducted Class 12 exams across India and in 26 countries abroad.
Last year, nearly 16.9 lakh students registered for the Class 12 board exam, with 87.33% qualifying. This marked a 5.38% decrease from the previous year. Among them, 1,12,838 students scored above 90%, and 22,622 scored above 95%. Additionally, 1,25,705 candidates were placed in compartments.
In a novel move, CBSE is considering Open Book Examinations (OBE) for students from Classes 9 to 12. As part of this initiative, a pilot run of open-book tests for English, mathematics, and science is proposed for Classes 9 and 10, and for English, mathematics, and biology in Classes 11 and 12. This trial aims to evaluate student response and completion time.
