The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued guidelines for conducting practical examinations for private candidates. CBSE Practical Exam 2024 will be conducted from 15 February to 15 March.
CBSE guidelines on practical examinations include instructions regarding venue, appointment of external examiners, answer sheets, uploading of marks, action by students, schools and examiners.
According to the board, practicals will be conducted for those students of last two years whose marks are not available in practical or theory exams due to duplication or absence in the exams. The exam will also be conducted for 2024 students who had applied for the practical examinations.
CBSE said that practical theory examinations for all students will be conducted at the designated examination centres. While the external examiners will be appointed by the CBSE regional offices, the internal examiners will be appointed by the schools themselves.
Giving guidance on uploading of marks, the board said, “After the conduct of practical examinations, the centers will upload the marks in respect of those private students whose practicals have been conducted at the centre. The award list will also be uploaded on the day of practical examination after the signatures of internal and external examinations.
CBSE Private students must contact their examination centers with a copy of their previous marksheet and examination admit card. The board has asked students to note down the date and time of the practical exam and report to the exam center accordingly.

According to CBSE, the exam centers will have to take the following actions:
- The Center Superintendent of the examination center will prepare a class-wise and subject-wise list of all the students for whom practical examination is to be conducted.
- The Central Superintendent of the examination center will have to contact the regional office in advance for the appointment of an external examiner.
- The Center Superintendent will not, under any circumstances, appoint an external examiner on his own will.
- The date and time of practical examinations will be decided as per the availability of examiner, convenience of the students and CBSE datesheet.
- Students will be informed in advance about the date and time of examination
- Regional offices will be informed about the scheme of practical examinations.
Further, CBSE asked the regional offices to prepare the list of students whose examinations are to be conducted, inform the students about their pending examinations, appoint external examiners in advance and timely completion of practical examinations, Ensure uploading of marks and receipt of answer sheets.
