The CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams for 2024-25 will start on February 15, 2025. Sample papers help students understand the types of questions and the exam pattern. With changes to the Class 12 exam pattern for this academic year, many students and teachers are eagerly waiting for the official sample papers.
In previous years, CBSE has released sample papers for Class 10 and 12 by July. This year, however, the sample papers have not been released yet, causing some concern among teachers and parents. Sources suggest that the board will release the sample papers soon.
While we wait, here’s a brief look at the CBSE Board Exam 2025 paper pattern for Classes 10 and 12.
CBSE Class 10 Sample Papers – Paper Pattern
For the CBSE Class 10 Board Examinations 2025, the paper pattern and syllabus remain unchanged from previous years. Therefore, the sample papers for 2024 will still be useful for this year. Although there are rumors about introducing 50% MCQs (multiple-choice questions) in the Class 10 exams, the official pattern states that MCQs will make up 20% of the paper, while competency-based questions (which may include MCQs and other types of questions) will make up 50% of the question paper.
Since there have been no changes to the Class 10 paper pattern, it is expected that the question paper format will stay the same. Based on the 2024 sample papers, students can expect around 20 MCQs per subject. Parents and students can refer to past sample papers available on cbseacademic.nic.in for guidance.
Please note that while the paper pattern hasn’t changed, the total number of questions might vary. It’s a good idea to wait for the official CBSE sample papers to be released before purchasing any sample paper compilations.
CBSE Class 12 Sample Papers: Updated Paper Pattern
On April 3, 2024, CBSE announced a change in the paper pattern for Class 12 board examinations. Starting from 2025, the exams will include more competency-based questions (CBQs). In 2024, CBQs made up 40% of the exam weight, but from 2025, this will increase to 50%. Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) will remain the same, but the weight of short and long answer questions will decrease from 40% to 30%.
These changes are expected to affect the structure of the question papers. While the board hasn’t provided a specific release date for the official sample papers, they are likely to be available by the first week of September. The topic-wise weight will stay the same. Students and parents should regularly check cbseacademic.nic.in for the latest updates.
