Board Exam 10th and 12th class Result Considered to be one of the most important parts of student’s life, board exams are about to end and the results are expected soon. While most of the students are aiming for higher marks here is a look at the bare minimum requirement of various boards to consider a student ‘pass’. Passing 10th and 12th class board examination is also a requirement for many competitive examinations and even government jobs, irrespective of the marks scored.

CBSE: The Central Board of Secondary Education has not only reduced the pass percentage to 33% from 35 earlier for 10th and 12th class; it has also declared that a student will be allowed to appear for a supplementary exam thrice. Students must obtain 33% in theory and practical separately as well as have an aggregate mark of 33%.

BSEB: The Bihar School Examination Board had last year grace marks policy; under which, a student fails in one subject only by not more than 8% marks or in two subjects by not more than 4% marks in each, he/she will be provided with the marks he/she is short of. To be termed as passed, students must obtain 30% of total marks in the theory part of each subject and 40% of total marks in practical of each subject.

ICSE: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination had lowered passing marks for both 10th and 12th class students from the academic session 2018-19 onwards. To clear the examination, a student will need 33 instead of 35% for passing ICSE examinations and 35 instead of 40% for ISC exams. No changes have been made since.

MPBSE: The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education announces a student pass when she/he scores at least 33% marks aggregate and in each subject.

MSBSHSE: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in 2014 had made a slight update in the pass percentage of students of SSC and HSC exams. While the aggregate marks to be considered as pass should be 35% but the minimum marks required in theory examination is lowered to 20%.

PSEB: The Punjab State Education Board has rejected the reports of any change in the ‘pass formula’ for the examination conducted in March 2019 for the academic year 2018-19. It was being considered that the PSEB board will not give grace marks to students but the board has clarified that no final decision has been taken yet.

Kerala Board: The Kerala Board of Public Examinations has made 30% marks as minimum criteria for students to clear SSLC and PUC examinations. Students need to score aggregate and separately 30% in all aspects including practical, theory, class performance etc. Students who secure D+ grade (30 to 39%) in the SSLC papers are qualified to appear for the Save-A-Year (SAY) examinations.

GSHSEB: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board declare the minimum passing marks for the board are 33%.

BSE, Odisha: Students securing a minimum of 30% of marks in each subject or group of subjects and securing at least 33% but with 45% of aggregate marks are considered pass by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.

BSEH: The Board of School Education Haryana declares to pass the exam, one has to score at least 33% marks in aggregate of the external exam and separately in the practicals that are being conducted by the school. For those who have failed in the annual examination in a single or two subject can apply for the supplementary examination.
